INITIAL STORYBOARD VS UPDATED VERSION

Milestone presentation: Feedback on the character design / Flat design

The storyboard and character design do facilitate the narrative explanations of sensitive skin condition (based on script skincare Script). However, it does not entirely meet their brand identity for examples the colour and the simplicity of the flat design. Therefore, I redesign my character based on their icons and try and not using the colour outside the brand identity to create a sense of cohesion.

Redesigning the characters

After I have redesigned the characters, the overall visual gives a sense of cohesion and does refer to the brand identity. With the minimal use of colours and shape also helps added the sense of Script Skincare personality to it.

WEEK 8 - 9

  • Any skin type can experience sensitivity, form oily and acne-prone, to dry.

  • our skin act as a protective barrier

  • which acts as shield to stop bacteria and irritants from reaching deeper skin layers

  • BUT, ins sensitive skin, this barrier is weakened.

  • your skin has a tendency to be more reactive than average

  • anyone’s skin can react to certain irritants (either trigger by environmental changes/ things (Sun, Wind, Cold).

  • Or trigger by Tropical products (Lotions or fragrances)

  • The irritation usually manifest with symptoms like redness, stinging, burning, itchiness

Originally, the narrative explanations of skin condition video have its own written script to explain about the sensitive skin. However, during week7 I have discovered my limitations on the recreation of a sensitive skin explanations video it was the written script provided. Therefore, I decided to re-write the narrative script and shorten the information focusing on the important parts only.  What I've done is I pick up the key points and with additional research, I am able to produce a new script.

  • When you think about it it’s quite amazing how insensitive the skin actually is,

  • As it’s constantly bombarded with irritants toxins and noxious bugs from the air around us.

  • The skin is a barrier that protects our internal organs from the outside world.

  • It makes us an impenetrable fortress.

  •  But for some of us, our fortress may have some weak points that allow the enemies in.

  • Skin sensitivity falls into three broad categories:

  • 1. Short Term Irritability - Short Term Irritability can arise when a new product is used on our skin  Or when an environmental change occurs.

  • This is very common and should not be confused with a true allergy.

  • 2. Skin allergy – Some people allergic to ingredients used in many products. Most common triggers are preservatives or perfume or even botanicals

  • So using natural ingredients won’t always cure your itch.

  • 3. Skin disease certain skin disease such as rosacea or eczema can make the skin sensitive and perennially itchy.

  • So if you regularly experience stinging, burning, itchiness or redness, you may have a degree of sensitive skin.

OLD SCRIPT

NEW SCRIPT

Remake Storyboard based on the new script.

NEW STORYBOARD

For the first part of the storyboard, I decided to show bigger images that resembles the beginning of the journey, just like when the client has to take the 'Script Skincare test' this part is all about knowing your own skin types. Later on, as the video gradually explains the sensitive skin type the characters appear visually in harmony with the description. This part resembles the skin consultation that Script Skincare 'SERVICE' provides to the client to give emphasis on the service rather than then selling the product.

WEEK 10 - 11

This week I breakdown each part of the storyboard and starts to plan out the motions of each individual parts. This separation in layers in Adobe Illustrator is a very important foundation before start working on the Adobe Aftereffects since it would help prevent any cofusion in layers name and motion later on.

I also try and organized everything in a folder, furthermore, I label each Ai file as clear as I can to prevent any future confusion and work disappearing.

Since my skills in Adobe Aftereffects is still lacking. I require to do a lot of tutorials and self-study on the software. Furthermore, I try to do some experiments with a possible simple motion. Once I am confident to one extent I start to animate scene 1 to scene 3. I also decided to add copyright background music to the video to give it a fun personality and a more immersive experience.

Going Up

The first scene I introduce Script Skincare company and the 'sensitive skin' types. The motion I aimed to achieve is a subtle movement, where the transition between each part in harmony and does not overpower each other.

For the second part, the scene transitions from text to flat design women vector art. This part I want to emphasis on the bigger images of the skin. Later on, there will be Magnifying glass appear moving upwards. I want to use the magnifying glass to reflects on the starts of the journey, just like when the client has to take the 'Script Skincare test' this part is all about knowing your own skin types and on the starts of the journey, just like when the client has to take the 'Script Skincare test'.

WEEK 11 - 13

SCENE 3 "Skin act as a protective barrier"

SCENE 4 "skin tends to be more reactive"

The third scene onwards is all about the sensitive skin character and its journey, where it simulates the experience of those who undergo sensitive skin. This part I want to visually emphasis on the text explanations reference to the text refers to sensitive skin.

For examples

"Skin act as a protective barrier", I choose a circular progressive motion to give emphasis on the barrier parts as shown in scene 3. Additionally,
"Bacteria and irritants", I use the acne and sun damage icons and add some personality to it to demonstrate the damage the harm that it has on the sensitive skin.

Scene 4 "skin tends to be more reactive" I reflect on this damage that bacteria and irritants cause to the skin to be more reactive (sensitive) by dynamically increase and decrease the size of the inner circle as if they were heartbeats.

Scene 5 "Skin reacts to environmental change" The character experience heatwaves when the sun appears, tilted when there are wind and face got freeze when it's cold. All this motion was to give emphasis on the effects appears for those who experience sensitive skin condition.

Scene 6 "Skin triggers by perfumes" for this part when the fractions of perfume reaches the sensitive character the irritation manifest redness symptoms and appeared to be on the character face.
