REFLECTION

Initially, at the start of the project (the milestone presentation), the understanding of the challenge wasn't clear in my mind, therefore, the first sets of characters design were based on my styles and overall it doesn't entirely refer to the brand identity and could not translate my intention successfully. Therefore, I have redesigned the characters based on their existing icons, re-write the script and re-do the storyboard. The new approach has helped me successfully developed a deeper understanding of the challenge.

I think the final outcome of my project has met the goal sets as I am able to create a motion graphic piece that facilitates explanations of sensitive skin condition. The overall visual of the updated design does give a sense of Script Skincare branding identity. The characters/uses of colour and the minimal use of shapes help added the sense of Script Skincare personality to it as well. However, I was not able to maintain the time limit to an exact 1 minutes because of the content (descriptive text).​

Initially, my approach toward this challenge is to recreate the narrative informative video. However, after going through with Lizzy, she mentioned that the video that I have created is to have the potential to be used on Scrip Skincare’s social media post. Thus, changing the approach from informative intention to marketing usage. Furthermore, she requested that my video should have a length limited to one minute. As a result by having an informative film rather than an advertisement, I was not able to recreate the length to be under one minute.

Overall, I think it is a challenging task for me as there are limitations in some aspect of design, we have to always acknowledge the brand identity and the screens. The experiences at the store visits and discussions about future concept store help me develop an understanding of how it felt working with a real company. In my perspective Script Skincare has a unique charm, I must say the opportunity given has helped me gain multiples sets of useful skills and it has helped me grow as a digital media designer. If I have to do it all over again I would like to change the way I initially approach the challenge and make sure I have more time to complete more than 1 motion graphic piece.
